one day in 1985, when my teammate Tom Parashos and I finished a softball game and decided to grab a sandwich. From that day forward we started hanging out together and soon became best friends.

After graduating law school we both passed the bar the first time and then started thinking about our future. I knew I was going into private practice before I even went to law school. Tom interviewed with a few firms and then decided to join me.

In August of 1988 we started accepting many of the difficult personal injury cases that other attorneys didn't want. We were working out of our North Park apartment at the time on a PC that Tom had bought. A month or so later, we borrowed some money which allowed us to rent an office in the First National Bank Building in downtown San Diego. In the early years, Tom and I worked many 14 hour days as we learned how to litigate cases by fighting in the trenches. We spent many "all nighters" reading practice guides, researching the law and preparing our client's cases for the next day's battle.

If you are going to be a lawyer, be an honest one. Over the years San Diego Law Firm has grown from two ambitious attorneys fresh out of law school to San Diego's most progressive and innovative legal services provider. I will always remember two pieces of advice I received when we began practicing - "the most important thing in a partnership is to take care of your partner" and "if you are going to be a lawyer, be an honest one." These words of wisdom have been the foundation of our relationship with each other and with the clients we have had the privilege of representing.

Looking back at what we've achieved in 17 years, I feel certain that we'll have even more impressive things to remember in our 30th year. Every day, we're finding new ways to better represent the clients we serve. We're really just getting started.
